Sail School NI was founded by Russell McGovern, a highly accomplished sailor with an impressive pedigree. After competing for a place representing Ireland in the 49er class at the Olympics, McGovern went on

 to gain extensive experience on the high seas, including stints as a skipper on some of the  Volvo Ocean Racing yachts and racing numerous offshore events. But his expertise extends beyond just competitive sailing - he has also lent his talents to coaching various Australian and Irish sailing teams, working with athletes in the Laser, Optimist, and 49er classes to help hone their skills. In addition to his work with aspiring sailors, McGovern also serves the community in a vital role as a coxswain for the Bangor and Portaferry RNLI lifeboats, putting his nautical knowledge and leadership abilities to use in rescue operations. Combining his wealth of firsthand experience on the water with a passion for sharing his knowledge, McGovern founded Sail School NI to pass on the lessons he's learned over the course of his storied sailing career.
