Course aims

The RYA Day Skipper Theory Course is a comprehensive introduction to chartwork, navigation, meteorology, and the basics of seamanship. The course is designed for inexperienced or rusty skippers who want to learn how to make decisions on board and is invaluable if you are considering taking the Day Skipper practical course. Some practical experience is desirable before taking the course. The course covers topics such as seamanship, coastal navigation and pilotage, chartwork, electronic charts, position fixing, plotting a course to steer, weather forecasting and meteorology, tides, collision regulations, and more. Upon completion of the course, you will have the background knowledge to skipper a small yacht in familiar waters by day and receive an RYA Day Skipper Theory certificate.

All course materials are included as part of the course such as a plotter and dividers, the RYA Course pack containing 2 full size training charts, a Training Almanac, exercises pack, Day Skipper shore based booklet which acts as an aide-mémoire throughout the course.
